Well, I brought up the idea to Elfs ('cause she didn't know that she could) to keep Sasori alive like Raja had originally planned, though we needed something to do this, and this little plot change is what I came up with. :D When Deidara attacks Sunagakure and captures Gaara, the current Kazekage, Sasaki Aimi watches on with the rest of her village, but instead of rooting for her leader to win, she is too transfixed on the fact that the one attacking her village is none other than a member of the Akatsuki. Knowing fully well the danger she faces, Aimi follows after the large clay bird separately from Kankuro and his team in an attempt to hopefully meet with her idol and obsession, Sasori, and, not having great tracking skills, gets lost in the desert outside of Sunagakure while making an attempt to follow the footsteps of the terrorists.
Aimi finally manages to stumble across the Akatsuki out of pure luck only to find that they are being confronted. She sits back and watches carefully in the shadows, unaware that she has more than likely been detected by the others, and watches with eagerness until Sasori's name is uttered and, stifling a gasp, makes an attempt to calm herself. She watches on while the bomber is chased with her leader, but she stays to watch the battle of the two women - Sakura and Chiyou - until Sasori himself is under attack, and she immediately rushes to his aid (though he doesn't care for her safety or will in the least). What do you guys think? :D EDIT: Forgot this. <<; During the battle, Aimi is contantly hurt and eventually gets poisoned from Sasori's lack of care for her, and (I'm thinking that Aimi tries to battle Sakura...) Sakura quickly makes a plan with Chiyou to take Aimi out from the battle with the older woman and treat her wounds, then try to aid Naruto and Kakashi once the poison is neutralized. Sasori lives, Aimi is taken back to Konoha, and Deidara may still lose his other arm.

One teeeeeeeensy thing you missed, though, and that was the contact.
Remember the arc where they found Orochimaru and Kabuto at that bridge? That was basically part of the reason Sakura and Chiyo were after Sasori. And that itself is a major part of the plot, because that's how they find Sasuke... and find that Sai has ulterior motives.
The idea looks good so that Sasori lives, but you'll have to get the contact in there somehow. Perhaps Sasori could.... Fake death, somehow? Something like that? Idk. >_> It's just that the contact thing is quite important to everything.

Being the one playing Sasori, if this was to transpire, and since Chiyo must give herself for Gaara, I don't think it far-fetched for Sasori to find a way to avoid her death out of pure nostalgia and unrecognized guilt. And as a motive to disguise any form of mercy, I know why he would tell them of the contact.
The scene Monsun described would transpire, and at the end, Sasori would feign death. We could even go so far as to let the hugging part commence (as Chiyo made the comment that he could have dodged the attack). Perhaps he positioned himself well enough to let the swords enter the cylinder, graze his heart to make it bleed, but otherwise not hurt it. In this way, he would feign death and still leak the info. Why? Well, bear this in mind: Sasori had Orochimaru as a partner and knows the way the guy thinks pretty well. If anyone can corrupt his contacts, it's him. So therefore he will use the desperate Konoha nin as a test to see if the contact really was intercepted.
Of course, there would remain the matter of whether he would also be trying to fool the Akatsuki, or return to them like nothing happened. I suppose the former because Tobi needs the slot, neh? So...Sasori could just become a wandering rouge factor, pulling operations secretly like the puppet master he is. I mean, what would one more third party antagonist be in this plot that seems to already have a dozen. >.>

But the only problem I see with Elfs' plan is that a member can't abandon Akatsuki until his or her mission has been completed: in this case, it would be capturing the Biju. I think Sasori's mission was the Sanbi, but when he died, it was handed over to Tobi to complete. Maybe Sasori leaves after he catures the Sanbi? Then there would be no problems from Pein, but he would need a good reason to leave in the first place.

I was thinking along the lines that he fakes death even with the Akatsuki? That way, Tobi still joins...which was my issue.

That would be hard to do, because I'm almost certain that Zetsu eats the bodies of deceased Akatsuki members. I don't think it showed him eating Sasori, though... so maybe he didn't because of the odd body?

Hmm...decisions, decisions. Puppets would probably give Zetsu indigestion, though.
*gasp* But Sasori can abandon his puppet if need be. I do believe it is in one of his jutsu. He could poof away after the Konoha nin leave but before Zetsu arrives.
Here:
Puppet Body :: Although Sasori was thirty-five years old, he maintained the appearance of a teenage boy. Sasori's unnaturally young appearance was a product of his design. Aside from his heart, Sasori's body was actually a puppet. In place of his stomach was a thick cable coiled around a pole, allowing Sasori to use it as a stinger and retract it if necessary. Attached to his back was a scroll holder, containing four scrolls that seemed to serve as "ammunition", which Sasori used to store his human puppets. Sasori also added a pair of poles to the back of his hips, each equipped with five large blades that could spin like a propeller, and pipes to each of his hands that could spew out intense fire or powerful water jets. Curiously, when using "himself", Sasori's eyes were always wide open, giving him a somewhat maniacal look. In contrast, prior to revealing his puppet body, they were always half-closed, making him appear calmer. Sasori has claimed that he has not used "himself" since joining Akatsuki, until his last battle with his grandmother and Sakura Haruno. Installed in the right part of his chest was a mechanism that could spin numerous chakra strings, allowing Sasori to use his Red Secret Technique: Performance of a Hundred Puppets. With it, he was given a drastic advantage over other puppeteers, such that he claimed to have taken down an entire country with it. Sasori's left part of his chest held the only part of him still human and thus the only, and necessary, part of his body capable of controlling chakra: a cylinder-shaped device containing his heart. Because Sasori's heart was the only living part of himself, his puppet body was virtually indestructible, allowing him to survive the poison mist Kankuro bombarded him with, as well as the impact from Sakura's punches. He was also immune to hindrances that would normally affect a human's body, such as fatigue, muscle failure, and pain, allowing him to move at full strength for extended periods of time. When smashed apart, he could simply draw the pieces back together. Additionally, he could transfer his heart to other puppets in a split second, allowing him to abandon a body should it be damaged beyond repair or otherwise incapacitated. How he transferred his facial features, as depicted in the manga, was not explained; at one point, he transferred to another puppet that somehow had his face.
Judging from this, he would retain his original appearance and everything if he needed. Though I would like avoid leaving that sexy puppet body. *cough*

Zetsu's suddenly a beaver? lol.
Yeah... I couldn't see Zetsu eating Sasori's body, 'cause... I'm pretty sure that might not necessarily be considered cannibalism [lol]... He'd just be odd to be eating basically wood? >>;
I think most of the idea should work, though. As long as we've still got all of the major points [or most of them, at least] within the actual idea... It should work. The antidotes thing is going to be a b*tch, though...
It might work that he fakes death with Akatsuki, though. Because... well... Zetsu might just not go after the body, y'know? 'cause he's a puppet... We could probably assume that safely.
Now that I think about it... Who's doing Chiyo? I really don't want to have to NPC her along with trying to do Sakura, but... ><
I don't remember, though, did he eat Hidan and Kakuzu, then? Because Hidan was still technically 'alive' in that hole, even though he was blown to bits... And he couldn't have eaten Kakuzu, because the Konoha medics autopsied the body.

Yeah, I think that might work... though it'll be a problem for DeiDei to get away from Tobi long enough to rendezvous with Sasori when Tobi can do that space-time crap... <<
And I don't really want to NPC her, but if need be, I will. Like if you really, really don't want to or have too much to do already...

So like I have no say, it's like all of you just ready to see me die for chiyo to revive me. I got you *tears* and I thought we were friends too.....I guess I was wrong. >.>
Also Zetsu would eat Sasori, or have you forgotten the container that holds his heart. That's all Zetsu needs

In the manga/anime, Zetsu simply left Sasori's body and didn't seem to bother eating his heart. After Tobi took his ring, the two simply left. And if you have any changes you'd like to see done that doesn't completely change the plotline, then all you have to do is speak up. xD I think the characters in this plot are: .Deidara .Sasori .Yura .Random Sunagakure civilians and shinobi .Gaara .Temari .Kankuro .Chiyou .Baki .Ebizo (sp?) .Itachi .Kisame .Naruto .Sakura .Kakashi .Gai .Neji .Tenten .Lee .Aimi .Zetsu .Tobi .Hidan .Kakuzu .Pein .Konan If I missed anyone, tell me. o_<

I don't think Zetsu would eat wood ( xDDDDDD eat wood xDDDDD) Or his hearth it just seems like he eats bodies because it's meat and its edable and he's hungry not because he has a quest to eat every Akatsuki member
