Appearance:
Tall and lanky, Kumataka does not appear as a threatening man by any means of the word. Standing at almost 6’2”, he usually towers above others, though he is incredibly lanky, which helps to offset any intimidation that his height might bring about. A pale completion, along with ginger-brown hair, serves to give the missing-nin a rather handsome look. His deep maroon eyes hold a cunning and wit not seen in most, though they are always hidden behind small, half-framed glasses.
Having chosen to garb himself in a more western style after deserting his village, Kuma‘s clothing reflects his polite, yet cultured personality. A blue coat, along with nice blue pants, and a ruffled white cravat make up the most obvious portions of his clothing, but he also wears a black wife beater underneath his suit jacket; however, he usually only removes the article when training or when relaxed, revealing the unflawed and pristine flesh of his bare arms. Surprisingly he does indeed wear nin-sandals, though his legs are not wound with bandages. His hitai-ate is wrapped around his right leg, the Kumo symbol scratched out with a single line.
Personality:
Contrary to the stereotypes, Kumataka is rather polite for a missing-nin, showing the utmost respect to both those who pursue him and his criminal comrades. He speaks very formally, and with an astounding wit that is normally unseen in those who have abandoned their village, leading many who do not know of his atrocities to assume that he is merely a well-raised heir of some sort. However, beneath the gentile and charismatic façade lies a rather cruel and cunning man, capable of impeccable strategy and utmost sadism in the correct situations.
Despite his civilized manner, Kuma is still every bit of the criminal that he is made out to be, and though he seems rather harmless, he is indeed a man driven over the edge, filled with rage and a cold sense of distain for others. His dishonorable discharge from the medical organization left him with a deep hatred towards other medical shinobi, and despite his previous vows of non-aggression, he does not hesitate to attack and kill other medics nowadays.
While many would be quick to name him incapable of forming attachments to outsiders, nothing could be further from the truth. While it is obvious that very few wish to associate themselves with the missing-nin, he is perfectly amicable towards others that do not try to hunt him, and treats them with utmost respect. His tastes run towards those of his own gender, but he does not find quarrel with women, instead treating them with courtesy and dignity, ever the gentleman to the end.
To those that he does manage to form relationships with, Kuma is a sensitive and rather protective soul. He will sacrifice anything to keep them safe, though it is very rare for any man or women to grow close enough to the missing-nin for him to truly care enough about them to risk his own well-being. While he used to be much more compassionate, the scorn of his village has driven most of that emotion away, and he now locks himself off from all but his closest acquaintances.
History:
Born into a small family of two chuunin in Kumogakure no Sato, Kumataka was introduced to the shinobi arts at a very young age. With both his mother and father working as senseis in the academy, he was usually brought to work to observe the older children in their classes. He grew enamored with the practices as a tiny boy, and though he was too young to enter actual classes, his parents took time out of their busy schedules to teach him personally. It was a happy existence, unmarred by war or by strife, and the three were content as a loving family. While he wasn’t able to actually master any of the lower-level jutsu that genin-hopefuls were required to learn, Kuma learned the very basics of the ninja way, and while he was still incredibly young, he was happy to be a part of his mother and father’s every day lives.
When he was finally of age, Kuma was placed in the academy, and he took to the courses with a childish fervor. Because of his previous interaction with his family, he was able to fly through the classes easily, and after the customary year of training, he had few problems passing to genin rank. His chakra control was much more precise then that of his classmates, due to the advance training that he had obtained, though his application of handseals was less then accurate.
Assigned to a genin team with two other boys, his life took a turn for the better. He went on missions with his new friends, learned more about the life of a shinobi, and spent a lot of time bonding with the other children. As things began to progress, Kuma found himself growing more and more interested not in the shinobi arts, but in those of the medical shinobi. When his team was injured, he was the one to set broken bones, to bandage scrapes, and to soothe the pain of everyday injuries. Hid knowledge grew, and while it took a few years, he was finally recommended for the chuunin exams at the age of fourteen. It was an exciting prospect, and all three boys began to train for the tests, each eager to prove their worth in tests to come.
While the first exam was rather easy, and the second, while more difficult, was cleared due to the lovely teamwork between the three, the third proved to be incredibly difficult for the young boy. He was pitted against another genin from Sunagakure no Sato, and the battle took a very long time. He was almost defeated on two occasions, once by a stray kunai stab, and the second time by a gust of razor sharp wind, but ultimately in the end he was able to logic and reason his way into a victory, and at the end of everything, he and his two teammates, along with five other genin, were promoted to chuunin rank.
As a chuunin, Kuma was finally free to pursue the life he had been dreaming of: that of a medical shinobi. His background was scanned, his chakra nature examined, and his mind tested, but finally he was accepted into the organization, after taking a vow of non-violence, and at the tender age of fifteen he began his first classes in chakra-based medicine, as well as more traditional methods of healing and caring for the ill and damaged. At last he was in an environment where his intellect and curiosity was allowed to flourish, and he instantly immersed himself in the training, tending to sick and broken shinobi in Kumogakure‘s largest hospital. His compassionate nature made him a rather popular medic, and soon he had become one of the most well known medic-nin in the facility.
His tenacity and hard work did not go unnoticed by those of higher rank, and at the age of eighteen he was approached by one of the Raikage‘s aides, who offered him the chance to take part in the village‘s jounin exam. While he had his initial doubts, Kuma finally decided to take the opportunity, operating under the philosophy that if he wasn‘t able to pass, he would still be a successful medic at chuunin level.
The test itself was grueling, consisting of tests of his mental resolve, exams of his chakra capacity and natures, and a practical application of his general shinobi knowledge. It exhausted the man, but he was able to emerge victorious, and was granted jounin rank with little fanfare.
The new level changed his position in the hospital, and much to his delight, he was granted control of a small wing of the building, able to command and teach a few chuunin ranked shinobi as a senior teacher. He was delighted to spread his knowledge with more medics, and he became a benevolent teacher
Possessing a heart motivated by compassion, Kuma began to extend his care to those shinobi with less the pure reputations. Hidden to the ANBU and Raikage, he began to admit nuke-nin and criminals in for special, personalized care, wanting to help even those that had committed atrocities, all in the name of treating everyone equal. It was mildly successful, and he felt as if he was doing quite good, but a careless slip of the tongue by a minor criminal, and suddenly the ANBU took the confused jounin in for questioning, stripping him of his rank and his position in the hospital.
Though he was apprehended and contained by Kumogakure’s forces, Kumataka was heartbroken by their close-mindedness. Exiled from the medical community, he wallowed in sorrow at being shunned so; after weeks of being imprisoned, the sorrow turned to a demented hate, and after months, he had forgotten why he had adored the organization in the first place. The cruelties of his village, of the hospital, were all that he knew, and when he was taken by the ANBU to be transferred to a more secure prison, he rebelled, and while he wasn’t able to kill any of them, his sudden flare to life was enough to surprise the elite shinobi, allowing him time to flee.
He knew that he was no match for any ANBU that would have followed him, and so Kuma did his best to lose himself in the mountains and forests that surrounded Kumogakure, and when he was sure that he was not going to be found, he made his way across the land, stopping in small villages along the way. While still polite and kind on the outside, he was unable to contain his rage when presented with medical shinobi, and thus he began to kill his former comrades off, despite his previous vows.

~ Chakra Scalpel [Chakra no Mesu] :: After forming the needed handseals, the ninja will focus chakra to their hands. When their charged hands reach the body of their target, they can extend the chakra internally into the targets body to cut and neatly slice their muscles and blood vessels without harming the surface skin. This technique can be used in battle, but because of its hectic nature, the fine precision required for an instant kill is not feasible. Damage can still be done to the vital organs, but the technique should be used carefully in battle.
~ Mystical Hand Skill [Shousen Jutsu] :: Shousen Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique utilized by medical ninja. This technique allows the ninja to heal wounds by focusing their own chakra to their hands. If the ninja is highly skilled, they are able to heal more critical injuries. Highly skilled medical-Nins such as Tsunade can use their techniques to perform surgeries that otherwise would not be possible.
~ Secret Healing Wound Destruction [Inyu Shometsu] :: Focusing his chakra to an area to be hit, the user can begin the cell creation process the moment an area becomes injured. This ability allows the user to activate his cells and create new ones almost instantaneously.
~ Lightning Shadow Clone Technique [Raiton Kage Bunshin no Jutsu] :: Raiton Kage Bunshin no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique that utilizes lightning to create a Kage Bunshin clone. Because it is a Kage Bunshin, the Raiton version shares the ability to interact with the environment due to it having physical substance. This allows the clone to carry out limited attacks on its target. If the Raiton Kage Bunshin is injured, the clone will revert into its natural lightning state. Like in other Lightning Element attacks, should the target come into contact with the electricity, they will be momentarily stunned.
~ Lightning Strike Armor [Raigeki no Yoroi] :: The user will generate a disk of lightning which will then pour down to cover his body and his weapon. This electricity will envelope his body in a protective armor which will harm anyone who dares strike him directly.
~ Camouflage Concealment Technique [Meisai Gakure no Jutsu] :: After forming the needed handseals, the ninja can grant themselves near invisibility. So far only the Sharingan eye and its revelation abilities has been shown to pierce the veil and see the hidden ninja. It is unknown if the Byakugan can penetrate the jutsu and see the user's chakra circulatory system.
~ Temple of Nirvana Technique [Nehan Shouja no Jutsu] :: Nehan Shouja no Jutsu is a Genjutsu technique that allows the caster to place a large body of people into a unconscious state. The target can avoid the spell by forming and using the dispel skill.
~ Release [Kai] :: Kai is a Ninjutsu technique which allows the ninja to avoid the effects of a Genjutsu illusion. After forming the needed handseals, the Genjutsu technique will not affect the ninja. The ninja can also use the technique on another individual who was unable to avoid the attack. After forming the needed hand seals, the ninja touches the one affected to end the affect of the spell.
* ~ Localized Anesthetic [Bubunmasui no Jutsu] :: Kumataka channels chakra into his hand, much like any other healing technique, then touches his target, rendering a touched limb numb for a short amount of time. This may be used on opponents or Kuma himself.
* ~ General Anesthetic Technique [Zenshinmasuiyaki no jutsu] :: A more advanced version of bubunmasui no jutsu, this technique requires Kumataka to make four handseals then concentrate chakra into his hands. When he touches a target, the floods their body with the chakra, numbing their entire form for a short amount of time; this does not prevent movement or any thing of the like, but renders all feeling null and void. Kuma may also use this technique on himself if he wishes.
* ~ Buzzsaw Technique [Marunokogiri no Jutsu] :: Similar to Chakra no Mesu, this technique is used to damage an opponent internally without leaving any external marks. Kumataka focuses chakra around his index and middle finger, causing a faintly visible aura of energy to appear. This energy then begins to oscillate, allowing Kumataka to cut through his target’s bones without damaging their external anatomy. Obviously, the thicker the bone the longer it takes to cut through, and this technique does not damage soft tissues.

Some shinobi boasted of the thrill of the hunt; it was apparently an intoxicating sensation, adrenaline flooding the brain and body, heightening every sense to nearly superhuman levels. The nuke-nin faintly remember what that felt like, but how many decades had it been since he had experienced such? Physical feeling had long since faded to dull and muted levels, his body ravaged by the unfathomable energy of jiongu. That was years ago though, and youthful exuberance had been replaced by the wizened maturity of old age; though his body retained its vigor and vitality, it was only sustained by a constant flow of organs from hapless hunter-nin and unfortunate bounty hunters. Useful, but the growing scars across his chest were a testament to how often he needed to replace his innards; at least the hearts he had stolen from the elders were still intact. That was one less thing he needed to worry about.
There was a rustle in front of him as the target he had been tracking suddenly broke through the underbrush of the forest, completely oblivious to Kakuzu’s presence. Blackened energy oozed out from his open mouth, shooting forward towards the Kumo-nin in front of him. There was a glint of metal as a kunai flashed out, trying to cut the chakra tentacles , but the effort was in vein. It could almost have been humorous, had Kakuzu possessed a profound sense of mirth, but instead it was merely a small bother. Smaller branches splattered at the site of impact, worming their way up the man’s arm, burrowing into his skin as cries of surprise and pain filled the air. He could vaguely feel the pulse of muscle and blood as it writhed around the appendages, but it was secondary. Nothing was in such disrepair that he needed to replace it at the time; no, the man was only worth his bounty, no more, no less.
He was struggling now, and the tan-skinned shinobi grunted, sending more of the jiongu threads out to entangle the body. There was a sudden dull pain in his shoulder as a mass ripped through the skin, coalescing behind him into a mass of twisted tentacles in the crude shape of a quadruped with wings. A carved, stylized mask graced what could have possibly been its head; for a moment it merely grinned, then suddenly its maw opened and with a loud whoosh of rushing air, a blast of chakra enhanced wind shot out, catching the entangled form full-blast. The jiongu threads retreated back to his body, safely tucked out of the way of the explosion, and he blinked as dust and debris floated through the air. Green and red eyes scanned the hazy surroundings until a form appeared in his vision. With a grunt, he lifted the broken body, looked around for any other persons who might have wanted to interfere, then turned. Genji would have the money waiting when he returned.
