: Character Information |::
Shurachi Kenkai
Type: Original
Age: 15½
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Status: Single
Interest: None
Face Claim: Original creation
Appearance:
Being slightly on the androgynous side as a child, Kenkai began to grow into her more mature body at about age twelve and had gotten her body pretty much settled by the following year. Unlike her sister, the female’s body is more on the long, lean side in terms of her curves and overall form in comparison. Her body is average height but a bit low on the weight side, being 160 cm. tall and 45.13 kg., but she has very small, delicate hands that you more likely find on a geisha than on a shinobi. Said hands are now rather scarred from being cut so often by wire. All through her Genin and Chuunin days, her friends would call her Kyakusembi (long legs) because most of her height is made up of, well, her legs. And those legs, and the rest of her body for that matter, are near inhumanely flexible. Her skin is pale to the extreme, something not uncommon in her family, and pulled tight to her frame.
Kenkai’s facial features are narrow and strong like that of her father, but soft curves rather than abrupt angles give her the feminine appearance and make her a near spitting image of her mother, especially with her high cheekbones but small amounts of baby fat still visible in her cheeks. The female’s lower lip is slightly out of balance with her upper lip, causing her to have a faint natural pout. Her ebony hair is cut short, layered and edgy, reaching only a few inches below her chin in some places and her collarbone in others, therefore accenting her confident jaw line. The female’s eyes are without a doubt her most striking and memorable feature. It’s not often that you find two pools of liquid onyx possessing such a unique brand of strength and determination staring you down.
Her outfit is typically universal and doesn’t alter much except when venturing into cold climates, which she tends to avoid doing, and at which point she adds a long black hooded cloak. Her outfit is primarily black, with the exception of the wrappings that cover her shins and the blue band of her slashed-through hiate-ate that is tied around her hips. Kenaki’s shirt is compromised of a black band that covers from just under her arms to just below her bust, leaving fishnet to cover her abdomen. A black strap, connected to the rest via a silver ring, cuts from the left side of the shirt, across her ribcage and over her right shoulder to the back of the shirt where it’s fastened is what mostly keeps the shirt in place. Her capri-length pants are simple, black, and slightly baggy for easy movement. Small cargo pockets are located on the front just below her hip bone on either side, and two slightly larger ones are on either side just above the knee where her pants are tucked in to the wrappings over her shins and where two of her wire-toting bands reside.
Covering from mid-bicep to her elbow is fishnet on either arm, which is then connected to a black sleeve that reaches mid-palm. Where the two pieces are sewn together is a black band holding wire, along with a band around each wrist serving the same purpose. Similar bans are located around the top of her stand-issue black shinobi-sandals.
Personality:
Because of her less-than-desired upbringing, Kenkai has herself bottled up behind a all-but-impenetrable wall. Outside she appears very quiet, extremely determined, calm, intelligent, sarcastic, and basically pretty cold and bitter towards people. On the inside she’s rather compassionate and can often relate to others who’ve been through a lot early on in their lives. If by some chance her wall is brought down, you can tell that’s she’s just an average person with typical emotions, although determination is her most prominent and defining factor. Then again, if you get her in fight mode, the female becomes rather confident and her clever, witty side comes through more clearly. She has many qualities of a good leader and really doesn’t like just going along for the ride.
She’s headstrong to a large degree and very level-headed in the face of danger. On the occasion something really riles her up and gets her stressed out, Kenkai becomes very snappy to just about anyone. Typically she likes to stay away from making any real ties with people since, from all of her past experiences, all they’ve done in the long run is cause her pain and anger. She’s not the type of person to prepare for every possibility and would much rather act spontaneously and go with whatever happens. Preplanning isn’t her forte anyway, and her mind tends to work best when the need arises and it can take in all the factors, and often possible ones, to form a plan for attack or defense.
History:
B.B. (Before Birth)
Although on a more recent note, the family has been shinobi for the Hidden Cloud village for over 50 generations. But before that, to be a Shurachi ensured hatred and possibly death.
In the still evolving world of shifting boarders and more frequently shifting allies, when shinobi were beginning to rise in numbers, a small group of priests and priestesses resided in the upper North-Eastern corner of a continent, an area that would soon be known by all as the Kaminari no Kuni. Originally, the indigenous peoples were against the creation of a large city on what they considered their land, but finally began to go along with the idea. The priests and priestesses were the devote followers of Amatsu Mikaboshi, and even with the changing world, they kept up their rituals of near-daily human sacrifices.
This wasn’t a large problem with the new-comers to the area, mostly since they used invaders or otherwise dangerous peoples since that was supposedly the kind of people their god liked best. But when the clan began taking people from the growing village and using them in their sacrifices, the immigrants began fighting back. To bear the surname of the ‘devil worshippers’ was taboo, and to interact in a kind fashion was punished by being exiled. Especially when the detestable clan could supposedly call upon the devil himself, allowing him to enter their body, and control the blood and bodies of all the souls he had even dragged down into the darkest regions of hell.
Now, of course there were exaggerations and such when stories are shared, but the common element was all the blood, and the crimson eyes that all the clan bore with pride. Realizing they could no longer practice their religion in public without being hunted down, the clan began to go underground, the numbers of priests slowly dwindling over the generations as many chose to give up the religion in favor of living in the ‘real world’. Soon, one priest, who went by the name of Shurachi Hagiya, was the only true follower of the Old Religion left. He realized early on in life that even as the clan strayed from their religion, some of the members born on particular days of particular months all possessed the clan’s ability to control, well, spilled blood. After decades and decades of recording dates, he realized there was a constant pattern and recorded the future dates that would possess this morbid yet historically significant technique that had taught the clan early on to summon up their chakra and control it.
Hagiya also noted that only a certain branch of the family produced such children who had never been exposed to the religion, a branch that had a woman from the Jinsokume married in many, many generations back. Apparently, that clan’s Kekkei Genkai had morphed into that of the Shurachi’s technique, therefore connecting the two, to a point. Though the Kekkei Genkai was guaranteed, the ability to use the technique itself was not. That is where those ‘sacred days’ capable of producing truly powerful children came into play. After writing everything he had ever discovered in a large scroll, the last Shurachi priest and follower of Amatsu Mikaboshi died in his sleep.
(Fast Forward:)
On the sixth day of January, just as the clock chimed twelve, Shurachi Kenkai, third child to Shurachi Ieyosu and Shurachi Amaiko was born. Kenkai was supposed to be a child gifted with the ability to perform the clan’s signature Atae no za Akuma. Unfortunately, the child had no signs of being any more unique than the rest of the clan. But Amaiko secretly knew her raven-haired, obsidian-eyed baby girl was special. Ieyosu seemed angered by the fact that she wasn’t what she was supposed to be, but kept it to himself. Because of the male’s career as an Elite Jounin, he was always on call and rarely was at home. Due to this fact, Kenkai was raised mostly by her sister, Kiketsu, and mother, who later on returned to her career as the mentor of a Genin squad.
By the time she could talk at about age two, the small girl believed she wanted to be a contortionist. Her mother never understood why, but supported her. This lead to nearly seven years of training in said profession. Being a rubber-boned child made it all the easier. Her biggest trouble usually resided in remembering all the body’s pressure points so that she would know how not to bend so she wouldn’t hurt herself. But, after a while, she learned them flawlessly. About five years in to her training, Kenkai wanted to become a shinobi like her family, so, Amaiko enrolled her daughter in the Academy while keeping up her contortionist training. After some quarrels within the family, Ieyosu and Amaiko had a divorce, leaving both girls with their mother. They occasionally visited their father on weekends. This was fine with Kenkai, until her sister, now Genin rank and possessing almost absolute control of her Kekkei Genkai, began showing more interest in her team than in her. She felt completely tossed aside. But, at least she had her mother.
By the time Kenkai had graduated to Genin rank at age ten without ever activating the Hayai Mokushi Ome, Kiketsu was already a Jounin and had her own apartment. At this age Kenkai had been working with wire for several years, using it as her main weapon. It was also at this time that the two lost their mother on a mission. The youngest child was sent to live with her father, whom she barely knew and only shared a bond of resentment with. Why he disliked her as much as he did was beyond her. After trying to gain his favor many times, Kenkai simply gave up and decided to just do things her own way. He just didn’t think she was good enough to be worth his time. The only time he paid attention to her was when he needed something to blame and abuse.
Within the following year, Kenkai’s interest was sparked when she began researching her clan. She learned of the Kekkei Genkai more thoroughly and also about the ‘scared days’ that were said to produce children capable of summoning the Atae no za Akuma. And that she was born on one of those scared days. Determination became a large factor of her personality and she began working for days, weeks, months. Just to activate her elusive Kekkei Genkai. When it finally happened, Kenkai smiled for the rest of the week. Little did she know that her Kekkei Genkai was possibly one of the purest forms that ever occurred in the clan.
At age twelve Kenkai had finally moved up to Chuunin rank, mostly with the help of her new-found ability. Yes, the numbers were correct. Kenkai could use the Atae no za Akuma, but nobody needed to know that. She learned to use the jutsu in many sneaky ways that worked in her favor. Simply holding her opponent’s ankle in place with a small tentacle was enough to get a fatal hit. Soon, she had nearly perfect control over the notably horrid jutsu.
Another year passed, and after losing all contact with her sister, and coming home to find her father’s assassinated body lying at the front door, Kenkai had absolutely nothing to keep her connected with her village. Finally, she knew what she really wanted to, and had to, do with her life. She had to take control and do what she felt was in her own best interest. That’s what it was always about anyway. But being beaten down by just about anyone and everyone for years, it left its mark. Maybe it was time to pay back her town for all their… unswerving kindness and understanding. A plan began forming in her mind. A vision of fire, and smoke. A sea of darkness that never ends... horrible screams and shrieks. Arms reaching up for hope that never comes. Then silence. Terrible silence... And soon, that vision became reality with a few miles of wire stretching outward from the Raikage’s office, a bundle of exploding notes every 10 feet, and a small burst of electricity. Watching the explosions go off was a spectacle in its own right, but the confusion that followed was almost endearing. For once, she was in on the secret. And it was all about her. From her perch on the village wall she could see everything, the small people running around like ants in a rain storm. That was what they got, a good dose of what she went through. Losing her family, aching brutally from broken bones and bruises, having no real place to call home. She sneered, turning her back on the village she once called home. Being only thirteen years old, intelligent and mature beyond her years, Shurachi Kenkai became the first member of the Shurachi clan to become a rouge-ninja of the Cloud village.
Chakra Element: Raiton & Suiton
Rank: Chuunin when disbanded; Current S-Rank Nukenin
Affiliation:
Weapons: Besides general ninja tools, a few throwing blades and exploding notes, Kenkai carries a large amount of wire on her body. Around each wrist is a tight-fitted black bracelet with a small spring-loaded wheel (imagine a tape-measure, if you will), around which wire is wound, a small weight at the beginning of each wire that is chakra sensitive, meaning she can send a very small amount of chakra to that point and control the thread and where it goes. In the wheel on her right wrist is very special wire, made of a strong material and only about as thick as 1 micron (human hair is 100 microns thick) that is used only for cutting. Generally she’ll send chakra to the weight, and let’s say it wraps once around a tree trunk, the weight comes back around and curls around the remaining wire and with a good slicing tug, the tree is now laying on its side. In the wheel on her left wrist is a thicker wire that can support her weight, which can be used for swinging over large areas. Similar wire is found on the bands around her ankles and just above her knees. Small pockets are sewn into her clothing where more rolls of wire are stored that are either replacements or can be used for traps.

~ Body Flicker Technique [Shunshin no Jutsu] :: Shunshin no Jutsu is a basic Ninjutsu technique. The ninja will appear and disappear in an instant, allowing them to retreat or attack suddenly. To facilitate the movement the ninja will often use nearby elements such as mist, sand or leaves to mask their appearance or disappearance.
~ Act of Water Surface Walking [Suimen Hokou no Waza] :: A variation on the Kinobori no Waza (Act of Tree Climbing), the art of water surface walking allows a ninja to walk on water as if it was a solid surface. Focusing an even amount of chakra out of the soles of their feet, they can balance themselves on the very surface of the water.
~ Lightning Clone technique [Raiton: Kage Bunshin no Jutsu] :: Acts like a Shadow Clone with the exception that when destroyed, the clone releases a burst of Lightning chakra; shocking the opponent.
~ Destruction Torrent [Suiton: Hahonryuu] :: Suiton • Hahonryuu is a Ninjutsu technique utilizing the Water Element. To use this technique the user will generate water in the palm of their hand to use against his opponent. From there, they can control it to their liking.

Extra Notes:
Kekkei Genkai:
~Quick Seeing Vision [Hayai Mokushi Ome][/u]
This Kekkei Genkai is part of the eye of every Shurachi belonging to a specific branch, though has been often confused with the Sharingan, at a distance, due to similar coloring. When it is activated, the pupil disappears and the iris of the user turns bright infrared in color. A slightly darker red design consisting of two rings, one around where the pupil would traditionally be and the other half way between the other rim of the iris and the pupil ring, and eight lines cutting from the outer rim of the iris in toward the center ring, like a + and a x overlapping, but the lines do not connect and barely pass within the pupil ring.
On a basic note, this Kekkei Genkai gives the user’s brain quicker signals from the optic nerve, allowing them to receive fast-moving images at a much more rapid rate than that of the average person and therefore give them a bit more time to process the movement and react accordingly. Extended use of this Kekkei Genkai results in slowed processing of images by the brain (even when it is inactive), headaches, and possibly blindness.

Clan Jutsu:
~ Gift of the Devil [Atae no za Akuma] :: This morbid jutsu is the clan’s signature technique, particularly because only a certain few born on pre-set dates** are able to master it. The last seven or eight people who were born on these pre-set dates weren’t ever granted this ability, so, until Kenkai was born, they thought the technique had died out completely. The jutsu itself is a sort of inner-summoning that the user must draw from inside themselves. The end result, when perfected, causes all the blood spilt onto the ground, within the past few months, and in a certain area to bubble to the surface and curl into a circle on the ground at the user’s feet. Each drop is then under the caster’s control. Most of who possess the ability to use this technique learn to form the blood into tentacles for holding their opponent while dealing the final blow. Others form the blood into an endless wave and drown their opponents. It is a very versatile jutsu, but, can only be used for certain spans of time that is based on the amount of spilled blood, fresh or perhaps a few weeks old, that had ever been spilled on the land because the metallic substances in blood never completely disappear. Use past the point of readily available blood results in blood being drained from the user’s own body for use. Those who possess the clan Kekkei Genkai and the ability to use their signature technique are naturally less affected by lightning jutsus, but not the natural occurrence, because of the amounts of electric ions confined in the blood they control and quite possibly the increase of Negative Electric Ions in their own bloodstream. This tends to be helpful when dealing with such opponents. On the other hand, they have a strange ability to feel storms in the air, because of the electromagnetic particles, as long as they’re within 10 miles of the eye of the storm. The same principle applies with lightning-based jutsu, with the exception that because lightning jutsu are much less powerful then natural lightning, they have to be closer to sense it. S-Ranked jutsu; Close, Medium and Far Range.

’Seven-thousand two hundred twenty, Seven-thousand two hundred twenty-one, Seven-thousand two hundred twenty-two… Alright, this is getting ridiculous.’ With a faint sigh, the female gathered herself up off the ground, absent-mindedly brushing dirt and twigs off the back of her pants. She’d been sitting there for two hours, resting her eyes. Unfortunately, sleep never came easy to her and now, in enemy territory, it didn’t come at all. ’Two hours wasted.’ she thought bitterly, already heading away from her current resting spot at full speed. ’I should’ve been entering Kusa no Kuni boarders by now.’ Kenkai continued mentally, one hand fidgeting with black sleeve that almost completely covered her thumb. Even with a relaxed expression, her eyes were darting around continuously. Though it may seem to be a bad habit, it was actually a very useful tool. Because her obsidian eyes never paused, she’d never allow any enemies know that she’d spotted them, if there were any enemies to spot that is. And it allowed her to quickly absorb a greater amount of her surroundings. She could remember being told to always be aware of her surroundings.
Her nimble body continued to tumble from tree limb to tree limb, making her way quickly East through the Hi no Kuni’s dense northern forest. Being this far North of Konoha ensured that there wouldn’t be any shinobi, unless they were simply cutting through of course to get somewhere else. Soon enough they’d find the last village she had passed through, a small civilian village just past the border between Oto and Hi no Kuni that now lay partially destroyed, coated in blood and smoldering, just like every other village she had passed through in the past year-and-a-half. Most were located in the several countries between Kaminari no Kuni and Hi no Kuni, but, it still proved a point, to her anyway. True, she didn’t hate everyone in those countries, but the possibility that she may be able to get rid of the one or two people making someone else’s life a living hell made it worth it. Just so they wouldn’t end up like her… She allowed a faint smile to form on her pale lips, mind racing more rapidly than her eyes.
The day had been very, well, pleasant so far. Minus the time she had previously wasted. No enemies, no running in to trees… Yeah, things were going good. Hm. Her eyes soon focused on the woods in front of her, catching a flicker of something… shiny. It wasn’t difficult to spot when buried into the earthy colors of the forest. Another step closer and its form was apparent, a kunai. The female’s body froze instantly, eyes flicking about. No traps, no Genjutsu. Slowly creeping closer until she could reach out and grasp out hilt, she realized how loosely it was stuck in the wood, as if it had been thrown from a good distance away and missed its target. Curiosity piqued, she placed her back to the tree, her head beside the original mark. She eyed the general direction of the source of the kunai and headed out quickly. It was in basically the same direction she was previously heading in anyway.
It was only about 100 meters from where she found the kunai that she came across a battle-scarred clearing. To say it was a blood bath would be an understatement. Whoever got there first was definitely a sadist. Four bodies of Konoha Jounin lay on the ground, either impaled with a handful of kunai or missing limbs, most commonly an arm or head. Almost the entire area was coated in a layer of thick crimson liquid that had begun to give off a faintly metallic odor, symbolizing that is was relatively fresh and oxygen had recently mixed with it. Kenkai’s pale lips pulled up on one side into a wry smile, eyes flitting around and taking note of the two bodies that had been thrown into the trees, one hanging by a barely-attached leg and the other twisted backward over the branch in a fashion that could only be attained through a broken spine. No, she was not a necrophilic voyeuristic, but, it made her wonder... What kind of past had the person who had shown such morbid brutality had? How had they grown up? And who taught them the meaning of life? Probably someone just like who really taught it to her.
Her face flattened out, lips returning to their natural shape as she turned away and proceeded in the direction she was originally heading. Kenkai’s eyes began their natural habit of flickering once more, mind wandering as her body continued to use all the tree limbs and trunks available to spin and twist her way forward, moving quickly but fluidly. She soon noticed a thinning of the trees, all too soon swinging off the last branch and landing softly on a grassy plain, fingertips gently touching the rough texture of the earth. She inhaled, absorbing the musty scent of the ground and the grass as she stood. Her onyx gaze shifted over the continuing landscape before she headed off again, moving at a steady and continuous pace. The advantage of the open space was that the female had better visibility, and the tall grasses brushing against her thighs provided soothing relief of the otherwise tense atmosphere. The down side was, there was nothing to prevent a kunai from embedding itself in her back. Allowing her eyes to flicker about once more, Kenkai soon let her mind wander, drifting from thought to thought as she continued toward her destination.
