Common Traits:
Most Shiden clan members have incredibly addictive personalities, latching onto drugs, alcohol, even actions with incredible ease. Also, members typically have small streaks of a very light color throughout their hair, making them easy to identify.
Kekkai Genkai Description:
More commonly known as “Heireta no Sandaba-do” [The spirit of the Thunderbird], the Raikakarasu focuses around the ability to draw upon latent avian qualities within a clan member’s genetics, transforming their bodies into mockeries of the “Thunderbird” that the clan worships.
Stage One: The clan member forces their recessive genes to activate, setting off a chain reaction that causes their body to mutate into a more avian form. The user’s eyes sharpen and change, allowing them to see farther and much more clear. In addition, feathers sprout from the user’s pores, replacing hair and covering the arms and upper back, but no other part of the body. By rustling these feathers, the member can create a field of static energy around their body, allowing them to mildly shock any person that comes in contact with the charged areas. This does little damage, but is quite surprising and can be used to disrupt an enemy’s concentration in the heat of battle.
Stage Two: At stage two, the clan member is able to draw upon their genetics to manifest a pair of large feathered wings from their shoulder blades. Additionally, the clan member uses chakra to hollow their bones, allowing them the ability to fly for as long as they are able to keep control of the kekkai genkai. In addition, the clan member’s hands and feet begin to warp, shaping into pseudo-talons that are razor sharp, enhancing basic taijutsu. The clan member may also use any of the previous static based techniques from stage one. As to be expected, when in flight, users are incredibly weakened against fuuton type techniques, and to a lesser extent, suiton.
Stage Three: The pinnacle of activation of the Raikakarasu, this stage is only achieved by the strongest and most selfless of clan members. However, it is incredibly rare for any member to activate the kekkai genkai this far, as it requires incredible sacrifice on the user’s part. By forcing their genes to activate completely, the clan member floods their body with energy, transforming their form into that of a large, eagle-like bird capable of carrying others and utilizing any of the previous static-based techniques that lower stages use, as well as the ability to freely control electrical energy within the air. However, as beneficial as this seems, it is an extremely under utilized power, as it forces the user to permanently sacrifice their humanity. Because of the rapid transformation and the stress that it puts on the body, the transformation is final, unlike the former stages, leaving the clan member trapped in avian form for the rest of their natural life. The user loses the ability to use any jutsu, aside from what can normally be utilized through clan means, and of course, their human form, and so very few, if any, members chose this path, preferring to rely on weaker versions of the Raikakarasu.
Clan History:
A small clan that had been exiled to the very edges of Kumogakure, the Shiden were founded almost seventy years ago by a very pious shaman from Kumogakure named Kurane. Kurane was the leader of a small cult that worshiped the mysterious Thunderbird, a deity though to be responsible for the lightning and storms that often swept Kaminari no Kuni. Through prayer and meditation, the members strived to become closer to their god, hoping that one day they would be allowed to touch the sky.
It took almost two decades, but strangely, it seemed that their devotion had been rewarded; the newest generation of children had been born with strange abilities, seemingly granted from the Thunderbird itself, and Kurane was hailed as a genius. To make sure that the powers continued to pass through the cult-turned-clan, members began to inbreed, increasing the powers, but creating a few rather noticeable defects within the member’s personalities. Addiction became common within the clan, be it to substances or dangerous actions, almost every member born with the Thunderbird’s blessing was flawed in some way. However, clan members managed to convince themselves that it was merely their god testing their devotion, and the inbreeding continued.
During the shinobi wars members of the clan were utilized as scouts and as aerial support for Kumogakure troops, flying high over the Konohagakure forces and wreaking destruction from the skies. However, when the fighting ended, there was no place for the clan within Kumogakure proper, the members cast out from societ because of their almost obsessive personalities, and thus the entire clan was banished to the edge of the village, cloistered away where they could not interfere with everyday matters.
