[Shiden] Higa
Type: Original
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Homosexual [Severe closet case]
Status: Single
Interest: Absolutely none
Face Claim: Sakurai - The Future I Whisper To You
Appearance:
Though still relatively young, Higa Is well-built for his age, sporting a well toned physique that it relatively well muscled for a shinobi. His skin is a perpetual shade of tan, hinting at some sort of exotic blood in his ancestry, and never seems to darken or pale, no matter if he is exposed to the sun or kept inside. When compared against the normally pallid flesh tones of other inhabitants of Kiri, he clashed quite horribly, and thus stands out in any crowd, much to his displeasure. Adding to his rather foreign quality are small streaks of white in his otherwise raven-colored hair that are incredibly resilient to dyeing, as Higa has come to know quiet well. Because of that fact, he keeps his hair short and rather spikey in a fruitless attempt to cover up the discolored parts by hiding them with his natural black locks. Eyes of a rather brilliant shade of green stare hatefully out at the world, full of aggressive uncertainty that is atypical for a young adult.
Though he is indeed a shinobi, Higa dislikes wearing his standard issue wear, as missions are rather few and far between. When not forced to appear like a shinobi, he instead chooses to don a dark grey tank top and loose black pants with the customary bandages wrapped around his lower legs and nin-sandals. Over his shirt he usually wears a loose fitting green top with large, yukata-style sleeves, that appears to be made of reptile skin from a distance. However, the article is merely patterned, though the fabric is a bit more water resistant than Higa’s other clothes. His Kiri hitai-ate is worn around his waist like a belt at all times, if only to appease his superiors, and more often than not, he is usually chewing upon a tooth pick. Three gold rings pierce both ears, and two small, tribal-style tattoos of feathers grace his shoulder blades in black in.
When forced to go on missions, Higa dons the rudimentary garb of a simple Kiri chuunin: a grey flack vest, black pants, and nin sandals, along with a long sleeved shirt that has had the sleeves shortened to three quarters length. He also tends to don a pair of grey, fingerless gloves during these times, if only to protect his hands during work.
Perhaps the most noticeable feature of Higa is not his hair or his skin, but rather it is the large, brightly colored sigil worked into his forehead. Despite the chuunin’s best efforts, the reddish-black mark is unable to be removed or hidden by basic ninjutsu, as it is a mark of slavery crafted by a rather high-ranked shinobi of Kumogakure no Sato, and thus Higa’s own powers are insufficient to cause it any lasting harm. Higa himself does not know this, and has long since given up trying to disguise it, instead bearing the brunt of many questions about it with unrelenting anger and frustration.
Personality:
To any person that meets him, Higa appears to be the brunt of most of the universe’s cruel jokes. His life is the ultimate example of schadenfreude, and because of such he has developed a rather abrasive attitude in order to protect himself from the inevitable hurt and embarrassment of daily existence. The chuunin is awkward to a fault without his barriers, and thus makes an effort to treat others with hostility and rudeness in hopes of driving them away before they manage to catch a glimpse of his actual feelings.
Outwardly, he is crass, antisocial, and generally just a dick, especially to other men. While those of the feminine persuasion are spared from the brunt of his surliness, males are berated, insulted, and sometimes even assaulted, depending on the situation. The more threatened that he feels, the more aggressive he becomes, a never ending cycle of testosterone-fueled idiocy.
Higa is a klutz, plain and simple; he is incredibly uncoordinated when moving, sparring, and especially when utilizing chakra. Because he does not know of the seal on his energy, he merely assumes that it is because of an innate lack of talent on his part, and had more or less given up on attempting to increase his knowledge or skill in the shinobi arts, though he is not satisfied at all with his current abilities. He has grown to have a rather strong loathing for the ninja arts, and thus uses his chakra as little as possible, relying on it only when there are no other options.
Self-hate and self-denial play a large role in defining Higa’s personality; he detests what he is, and steadfastly refuses to acknowledge his growing interest in members of his own gender, trying desperately to prove his own nature wrong. If questioned, even jokingly, about it, he reacts fiercely, denying everything and lashing out at his supposed accusers in anger. Because of this, he makes extra efforts to impress the female sex, trying much harder than he really should to affirm his nonexistent heterosexuality, though he is rather horrible with anything relating to attraction and/or flirting.
History:
Higa was not born a son of Kirigakure no Sato; instead, he was transplanted to the village when he was five years old, brought in as an exotic pet for a corrupt village official.
Actually born in Kumogakure no Sato into a small, outcast clan, Higa‘s first few years of life were rather uneventful, as far as shinobi training went. Both of his parents were civilians, so thus he was not exposed to the ways of chakra and jutsu like many other children his age were. Instead, he was taught by his mother and father, as well as the rest of his clan, indoctrinated into worshiping an enigmatic deity known as “The Thunderbird”. Seeing how happy his parents were with the religion, the young Higa eagerly took up the beliefs, following in their footsteps happily.
However, when the boy turned four, his life took a sudden, traumatizing, turn for the worse. In an act of utter heartlessness, Higa’s mother sold him to a band of slave traders in order to pay off debts that she had acquired through years of gambling addiction. Forcibly torn from his home, with his mother’s blessing, Higa was branded with the mark of his new owners, his energy sealed to prevent him from utilizing his innate bloodline against his captors. He was shipped out from the village soon after, taken across the land along with many other captives and paraded around in front of potential buyers. He was lucky enough to escape some of the more abusive clientele that the slavers dealt with, but finally his person was bought by a minor official from Kirigakure no Sato who was drawn by his bizarre looks.
While it was not an entirely bad life, the boy was kept as a pet, rather than a person, and thus was treated with no respect or decent care. He often went hungry because of the sheer laziness of his master, and often times tried to escape, only to be brought back and brutally punished each time. It was an existence not fit for a young boy, but somehow he endured day after day, never giving in to his master’s cruelty, somehow able to retain a spark of defiance against the overwhelming situation.
However, help actually did arrive shortly after the boy turned five in the guise of half a dozen ANBU investegators. Having heard rumors of suspicious behaviors, the masked enforcers swept through the official’s house and unearthed over a dozen enslaved civilians and shinobi alike. When they found Higa he was entirely willing to go with them, no questions asked; anything to get away from the master he had grown to hate. After he was removed, however, because of his young age it was decided that a small seal would be placed on the boy’s memories in order to prevent him from remembering his year enslaved, and instead he was given to an older chuunin couple to raise.
Because of his newly wiped memory, Higa forgot all about Kumogakure and his real parents, instead taking to his foster mother and father just as easily as if they had been his birth-family. Gone was the defiant and helpless little boy, instead replaced by a happy and well-adjusted child who just happened to bear a rather odd marking upon his forehead. Admittedly, Higa was curious about the adornment, but he was told that it was merely a symbol for good luck that had been bestowed upon him right after he was born. Being young and naïve, he believed the explanation well enough, and nothing more was ever asked about it.
When it came time to test each student, Higa tried his hardest to complete the small displays of physical and spiritual strength, but ultimately he failed his first genin test and ended up having to repeat the entirety of the academy classes again. It was incredibly embarrassing for the young man, but at his parents’ urging, he managed to stick the second class out, finally managing to become a genin proper, if only barely.
Stuck on a team with two other genin younger than himself, Higa was entirely embarrassed about his previous screw-up, and it showed in his training. Unlike the other two, there just always seemed to be something wrong with the way that he executed moves or jutsu, something very small that would always mess things up at the most inopportune moments and such. Because of this, Higa began to get very defensive about his constant failures, becoming rather abrasive and prone to lashing out at those that questioned him.
Though it took a few years, somehow his team managed to get a recommendation to take the chuunin exams, and so Higa and his other two teammates were whisked away to Konohagakure no Sato in order for them to compete in the illustrious exams. The first test was actually rather easy for the black-haired boy, and he passed with flying colors, much to his surprise and pleasure. However, the shinomori portion of the chuunin exam went much less smoothly; as it was a hands-on application exam, Higa was a liability for his teammates, and thus he was given a rather useless job as they made their way through the mutated forest, not contributing much as the other two managed to overpower another team and steal an opposite scroll. The three made it too the center of the forest, with little help from Higa, and thus all three were allowed into the final portion of the exams.
Pitted against a young girl from Konoha itself, Higa was already at a strong disadvantage, but he gave the fight his all either way. While he wasn’t the most stellar fighter, the match eventually ended in a draw, with neither genin winning over the other. Certain that he had just failed, Higa was entirely surprised afterwards to find that the Kages had been impressed with his spirit and determination, and thus he was granted the title of chuunin.
With the rank up under his belt, Higa lost all motivation for the shinobi arts, dropping out of touch with his sensei and former teammates and only accepting the bare minimum of missions in order to distance himself from the constant failures that shinobi work brought for him.
He has no plans of ever attempting for jounin status, and currently only takes missions when he needs money, instead preferring to stay at home and close himself off from the rest of the village.

Higa does not know that this jutsu is even in place, and thus has no idea that most of his energy is being blocked in the first place. Finally the jackass had let the Hoshi-nin go, and seconds later Kuma had placed himself between the two, gently shoving Kogitsune out of harm’s way. The man had been overly aggressive, and even with one of his arms out of commission for a while, the medic wasn’t entirely sure that he wouldn’t try anything else. It was rare for him to care so deeply about such a seemingly petty confrontation, but it was his lover that was be accosted and he certainly wasn’t going to stand for that. He was going to berate the other man some more, but suddenly the tell-tale tingle of chakra in the air made him stop. Without thinking he jerked Kogitsune aside, throwing him rather harshly away as he turned to meet whatever the red-haired man was thinking of doing.
A spray of red heralded an invisible assault, and any words that he was going to utter died in his throat. Face contorted in surprise, he was momentarily stunned; who in their right mind would actually attack a man in the middle of the street, in front of so many witnesses. As the pain struck, however he was momentarily blinded, falling backwards and crumpling in on himself. However, it was mitigated by the sudden flare of chakra to his midsection, skin, bone, and muscle knitting themselves back together almost instantly under the energy’s coaxing. The blood though…it was everywhere, staining his ruined jacket, the dusty ground, even splattered upon the man that he had strove to protect, and a cry went up from the crowd at the sight.
That was the last thing that he needed right now; he couldn’t deal with the ANBU and medic-nin that would surly be dispatched to the area, especially not in his current condition. However, it was a wound that needed to be repaid, if only for his own pride. Still curled up as if grievously injured, Kuma tucked his hands closer, hiding the handseals he was forming from view. Though his vision was obscured by the dirt and blood covering his glasses, he lashed one hand out towards the redhead’s ankle, fully intending on numbing his entire body until the proper authorities could deal with him.
