All in a day's work____________________ Karei allowed a gloved hand to wander across the little mocha motorboat of a cat in his lap as she closed her eyes in a dazed sleep. They had both gotten back from a mission not too long ago, and Karei was sure that if he hadn't had gotten away from the kunoichi that accompanied him in his journey, she would have crushed his baby to death and hit on him so much that he would have physically started to bleed... or at least his brain would. She had a way of speaking that knew how to blow his mind to just the right degree that he had to break down her sentences in his head into simpler words so that he could halfway understand what she was saying, and her speech tumbled out so quickly that he didn't have time to make sense of her babble half of the time that the two were wandering about. Of course he hadn't minded talking to her, but she needed to learn how to speak at least slightly normally...
Karei hadn't noticed that Aiko had stopped purring until he stopped staring off into space and actually glanced down to meet her curious emerald eyes and adorably tilted head. She gave a soft, worried mew, and Karei couldn't stop the corner of his mouth from pulling up in amusement. A white finger drifted towards her head and scratched behind one of her tawny ears that stood straight upwards when the massage began. Karei could hear her purr each time he flicked his finger, and he gave a low chuckle at the cat. She could always cheer him up, even when he wasn't feeling down. If it wasn't for the tiny brown fuzzball, he would had fallen into depression long, long ago.
Which reminded him: he needed to run by the house to pick up a few herbs that he needed for his candies.
Shouldering a complaining Aiko, Karei stood and began sauntering toward the little shack of a home/restaurant that he called, well... "home." ____________________

Prepare to hate me, fall where I may. This night will hurt you like never before. Old loves, they die hard. Old lies, they die harder. A shapely, dark-clad woman wandered the streets of Amegakure no Sato as she always did, people hiding in doorways and gaping at who the woman was. It wasn't hard to recognize the somewhat legendary Konan, often known as "God's Angel", because her form appeared to be so angelic and the fact that she followed Pein's will to the nail. God's Angel of Amegakure, better known as the Akatsuki member Konan, was out today for once, glad that it wasn't raining for once. It sucked when you had to be cooped up indoors due to your water-esque weakness and the fact that you completely despised it, too.
And so, today, Konan had thought it a good idea for her to at least enjoy the somewhat nice weather that was floating around outside. The sky still screamed dark and ominous as if rain were going to come sometime soon, but Konan knew that Pein wouldn't allow it, not if she were outdoors. It was just a thing they had, really; he knew of her weakness to water and how detrimental it could be, because for her to become wet meant that she was entirely useless to the utmost point.
The question was, now, where was she going to go? She hadn't really spent much time wandering around Amegakure, what with being stared at and all, and she couldn't think of anything she wanted to do. As her stomach growled slightly, only loud enough for her to hear, or rather, feel, she thought it probably best for her to get something to eat. She'd heard of a nice restaurant that didn't get too much for business for the most part as of yet, but she'd also heard it was rather good food, too. Well, so long as it meant getting out of the streets where people couldn't stare at her, then that was perfectly fine.
Not really wanting to walk all the way there, Konan formed a single seal, whispering the familiar words that came to her. Almost suddenly, parts of her legs, arms, and face began to turn into small paper sheets, that flower always positioned in her hair becoming her lifeline as a pair of paper wings formed out of her back. With what was left of her legs, the kunoichi crouched and then leaped upwards, taking flight like a bird who knew how to fly high might have. She soared just a little bit above Amegakure no Sato until she found what she was looking for. The place, however, didn't seem open... Perhaps the owner was gone for the time being? Nonetheless, she really wanted to try this place out now. It seemed interesting...
Landing very carefully in front of the door, she allowed her paper wings to retract, and the kunoichi became a human body once more, no longer made of frail-seeming paper like she had before. As she landed, she saw a man coming up. Was he perhaps the owner? She thought she might as well ask, just to be sure.
"Excuse me," her feminine, melodic voice chorused, "But are you the owner of this seemingly fine establishment?" It never hurt to be polite, now did it? I wish I had an angel For one moment of love. I wish I had your angel Your virgin Mary undone. I'm in love with my lust Burning angel wings to dust. I wish I had your angel tonight. ______________________________________________________________________________________ I lie inside myself for hours, and watch my purple sky fly over me...

All in a day's work____________________ Karei didn't have to walk a long way to reach the little cabin; just a few minutes that would have taken him ages as a child. While he was living in the dismal dump that was the slums of the village while in his earlier years, his family moved from place to place to be around food and such, but now... Well, he was more than happy to have the shabby little roof over his head when it rained, even though it leaked in quite a few places, especially in the kitchen. Pots had been scattered about in the room to keep from getting the floor wet so that the cooks wouldn't slip, and Karei took an extra precaution by drying the floors even if it miraculously hadn't rained that day.
As the man approached his home, he saw someone that looked... familiar, yet he felt as if he didn't quite know her. The first thing he noticed was her rather large, covering cloak made of black, red, and white cloth, and the red splashes oddly reminded him of clouds... but, upon further inspection, he found that the clouds were further outlined by more white cloth. A wide red strip ran from the bottom hem of her coat that covered sandaled ankles. He was sure that he had heard about the ominous-looking cloak somewhere before... in a meeting, perhaps? There was an organization associated with it called... Akatsuki. That was it. A group of S-ranked criminals that had banded together for some unexplained reason. He halfway wondered why an Akatsuki member was at his door, and he halfway didn't exactly care. His family had gone out on some sort of vacation to a cabin out in the woods, and he decided to stay home to take care of the shop/house and continue doing at-home missions. The next thing that hit him was her unnaturally blue cropped hair with a white flower...
Karei could have slapped himself. In fact, he almost did... right in front of God's Angel. But, thankfully, she saved him the embarrassment and asked if he was the owner. Not wanting to lie, especially to someone like... well... God's Angel, Karei shook his head lightly and gave an apologetic smile. "No, I'm sorry, Angel-sama. But I am the son of the owner. My family is out on vacation, and I was left in charge of the restaurant while they are away."
Something just then hit him. Why was God's Angel at his house? Maybe she was coming to shut them down herself...
As much as the worry begged to cross his face, Karei kept a small smile plastered onto his features as to not give the wrong idea about his thoughts. "Would you care for some tea, Angel-sama... or maybe something to eat? I may not be the owner, but I am one of the chefs."
Just as he had almost forgotten about his furry little companion, Aiko made a move to clamber onto the top of his head and completely messed up his hair in her attempt. Laughing quietly, Karei plucked her off and held her close to his chest while stroking her back. "I nearly forgot to introduce you to Aiko-chan, Angel-sama. Please forgive me." Karei's eyes drifted down to the jealous ball of fluff in his arms and wriggled with happiness under his fingers. ____________________

In her opinion, this quaint little restaraunt looked as if it could use some repairs, at least to an extent. The roof was one of those typical slum-type ones that always leaked... Konan remembered having to stay in one of those. It was a challenge trying to avoid as many drops as she possibly could, meaning she spent a good deal of her time hiding underneath her slightly oversized Akatsuki cloak. As per usual, her hands were folded and held up against her abdomen casually, her blue eyes glancing this way and that while a light breeze fluttered her light hair.
The fact that he'd called her Angel-sama felt a little strange, because she was used to either not being talked to or just being called "Konan-san" or "Konan-sama" by most. Pein usually called her "Konan-san" or "my angel" for the most part, and that she was used to, but Angel-sama? It was definitely a little awkward. Probably about as awkward as Hidan was annoying. Someone surely needed to teach that stupid little man a lesson or two at some point... Hopefully Kakuzu. He seemed like the type to do it.
Deciding to make herself a little more comfortable, Konan clasped her right hand around her left wrist, allowing her arms to hang lightly in front of her. It was a common habit for her, and it also exposed the ring which she wore on her left middle finger. Standing there, she listened to the man's offer of tea or food, and that surely sounded like a great idea. Konan was - mentally - leaping at the idea, but she would take it on in a more professional way, as she always did.
"Yes. Some tea and a bite to eat would be very nice." Her shadowed eyes closed fully as she bowed her head in a thank-you gesture, the eyeliner that she always wore still perfect as ever. As the small cat that she'd failed to notice began to climb on the man's head, Konan could have laughed if the situation called for it. She was cute, yes, a cute little furball at that, but now wasn't really the time to expose that half of her personality. She was supposed to remain a bit of an authority figure here in Amegakure no Sato, now wasn't she? Little did they know, she had once been an orphan and child of war like all of them, until they had met Jiraiya. Then, things had gotten interesting.
"It is perfectly all right," she said in her more professional tone, her voice as melodic as ever. There really wasn't a need for the man to apologize, but it seemed he was cautious about what he was going to say, especially because of the status Konan held in Amegakure no Sato. She thanked Pein for that for the most part, because had the two of them not stayed paired together, she would have not been called "God's Angel". Here, Pein was considered a god to most, and Konan could see why; he was more than just a little bit powerful, with his Six Paths of Pain and his Rin'negan. Konan's own abilities paled in comparison to what he could do, very easily.

All in a day's work____________________ So either she had come to shut the Kuroyama family's house/eatery down, or the Angel had actually come to eat at the quaint little cabin.
It was almost like a dream come true. The only thing missing was... well, seeing the god that he worshiped so fervently standing beside her. If God came to eat at the restaurant, then everyone would defiantly come, and business would be better than ever, not to mention that he would get to meet his hero. That was currently one of his dreams, yet it was the only one that used to seem out of reach... and now, it seemed so close that he could almost reach out and touch it. The Lady Angel's presence was all that he needed to bring this about in him, and feeling the happiness well inside of him, Karei allowed a soft smile to play on his thin lips.
"Please come in," Karei said, bowing back respectfully as he held Aiko gingerly in his arms so that she wouldn't fall. He casually walked to unlock the door, then gave a polite gesture for her to enter.
The cabin was decorated quite plainly. Four round tables with three chairs at each were spread in the tiny space, and clean white tiles with gentle blue swirls that overlapped one another. They had been handpainted by his mother then glazed by his sister, so no tile was exactly like another. The walls were made of a light wood that was common to Amegakure. Three doors were on the far wall, and two were labled. The one on the far left had "Kitchen" neatly carved in intricate letters, and the door in the middle had "Restroom" in the same fashion; however, the third, which was farther from the others, was unmarked and was the entrance to the bedroom shared by those of the Kuroyama family.
"Please excuse me while I make your food," Karei said, giving the same sweeping hand motion toward one of the tables with polished black chopsticks in a clay tea cup in the center of the table. "I will make sure that it doesn't take too terribly long." At his lack of attention to her, Aiko hopped from his arms and padded towards the kitchen with her tail sticking upwards.
Karei quietly shook his head entered the kitchen and began washing his hands before pulling out a skillet when he realized a simple, yet extremely important detail that he couldn't learn from any book: He didn't know what the Lady Angel liked to eat. Did she like traditional foods? A Western-style cuisine? Or maybe she was a vegetarian? Vegan?
His mind was swimming. How could he not know what Lady Angel liked? Was he inattentive or something? Well... it wasn't like he was going to ask her what she wanted to eat. He had promised to make something that would hopefully appeal to her tastes quickly and efficiently, which meant that there was only one thing that he could do. He had to keep it traditional.
Calming himself, Karei set down the skillet and began thinking. What was something that most everyone would eat? Well, considering that she might be a vegetarian or a variation, meat was out of the question, as was fish. But, thankfully, meat wasn't a main staple of the traditional Japanese diet. So he instantly moved to the refrigerator and pulled out a few chilled blocks of tofu and decided that he would make a variation of Koyadofu, fried tofu with soy sauce and marinates.
He turned on the water from the sink and filled the skillet with lukewarm water, then placed it on the stove after preheating so that the water would boil faster. He carefully set the tofu into the pan once bubbles caked the bottom of the skillet, then he pulled a razor-sharp knife from the wooden block on the counter and began running the blade under the cold water of the sink, and once it had been thoroughly cleaned, he turned to the few blocks of tofu that had now become firm and pulled them out with a pair of tongs. He shut off the fire and drained the water, then sliced the tofu into minute pieces that varied in shape and size, ranging from the width of his little nail to that of his thumbnail.
He cut the fire back on and drizzled soy sauce and sweet sake into the bottom of the skillet enough for a thick coating at the bottom and set it on to heat. While this cooked, he began one pot for green tea and another for sticky rice. Once the glaze for the side dish had began sizzling, Karei dropped the tofu pieces into the batch and mixed them together until a thin coating had been applied to the now slightly soft tofu. He turned it off to cool and set it on a plate, then placed it in the refrigerator so it could chill while the main meal simmered.
He pulled out yet another skillet to cook a mixture of green peas, shitake mushroom bits, strands of carrot, and a blend of lotus root and burdock. He saw that the rice was ready for the mixture and sprinkled the vegetables on top, then mixed it together for a homemade gomokumeshi. By this time, the green tea was ready and the tofu had been thoroughly cooled, so he poured the tea into a clay kettle and put a heaping amount of rice into a bowl and a smaller bowl of the tofu side dish was placed beside it on a large white platter. On another, the kettle and a matching cup were positioned quite attractively, and with the skill that he had acquired from waiting on those in the restaurant, Karei brought out the meal and set it in front of Konan. "I hope that it suits your taste, Angel-sama," he said with a bow.
Aiko, who had followed him back out of the room, jumped up onto her hind legs with her front paws resting on his shins. She gave a loud mew, and Karei responded with a lighthearted laugh before picking her back up and stroking her tiny tawny head.

Prepare to hate me, fall where I may. This night will hurt you like never before. Old loves, they die hard. Old lies, they die harder. The small 'cabin' that one called a restaraunt was rather... Quaint, she had to say. Slums, of course, like the rest of Amegakure, but it seemed it was located in one of the better areas. Amegakure was almost completely a slum-like village, due to the wars and such that had ravaged the poor land. However... Some of the areas weren't so bad. Before entering, Konan glanced up at the tower... The tower where Pein usually was. It was a common place for her to be as well, hiding out the rain that she so hated. As she stepped inside, she felt a small raindrop on her hand... Lovely. She wouldn't be leaving any time soon if the rain kept up... Nor did she expect Pein to remember that she was outdoors. No matter... He knew her well, and he knew of her utter loathe for water. Much like a cat, she couldn't stand being wet... But her for much different reasons. If there was an attack on Amegakure... She would surely stay out of the rain.
She nodded a small thank-you as the man gestured quite politely to the seat... Ah, how polite most of the citizens of Amegakure were to her. It kept her from having to be snappy to anyone... And it gave a bit of a calming sensation, too. It was most likely the reason Konan was able to keep such a straight and rather serious demeanour all the time. Very rarely she showed any emotion, a trait she'd easily picked up from Pein... Er, Nagato, whichever one. Not the old Nagato she'd known, however... The new Nagato. The one who now called himself Pein, or Pain, or whichever. The man of six bodies... Who usually showed himself as Deva or God Realm. Gently and quietly she pulled her chair back as the chef went to make her food, her head turning to look out the window. The dirt of the streets was darkening with the wet rain... Well. At least that would give her more time to eat.
As she waited for her food to be cooked and arrive, she unzipped her cloak halfway down her torso... She didn't feel like trying to pull her small arms through the oversized sleeves to get what it was that she wanted. The pockets inside the cloak were loaded with origami paper, some even in different shades and colours, which was exactly what she was aiming for. Origami was her life... Pulling out the papers, she zipped the cloak back up and began folding absent-mindlessly, thinking. She folded a total of five different flowers, setting them in the table to act as the centerpiece that didn't really exist. Well... They were works of art, after all.
Konan smiled thankfully when her food arrived, rather glad that it hadn't taken as long as she'd thought. She wasn't deathly hungry as of yet, but the food looked delectable... She had enough of an appetite to finish it all. What it was wasn't really in her interest; over time, her stomach had hardened like concrete when it came to eating the weirdest of stuff. When you were an orphan, you took any food you could get that wouldn't kill you; whether it be stale bread or fresh cheese, you didn't usually care. However... hmm. Tofu. That interested her. Rice, beans, shiitake mushrooms... Strands of carrot... A healthy meal, sure.
"I hope that it suits your taste, Angel-sama."
"Arigatou," she replied in her lilting, feminine voice. "Anything would suit my taste." Bowing her head once again in her gesture of thanks - it was a common thing for her, almost a habit - she picked up the chopsticks from the clay cup and broke them with the common saying that all did; itadakimasu. Setting them down, she poured herself the tea carefully from the kettle and sipped, enjoying the taste. Tea... The one thing that made water seem a hell of a lot better. The fact that she needed to drink water to survive, and yet hated getting wet, seemed rather ironic... Along with the fact that she lived in the wettest of all the shinobi villages, in the Rain country.
With grace, the woman dug into the food, rather enjoying the taste. It seemed this man had been gifted with an ability to cook... Konan hadn't had such food since the last time she'd passed through the Hi no Kuni, and that was saying something. For such a slum-like place that Amegakure was, this quaint little cabin offered something more; she might have to tell a few about it. The food was rather good...
