: Character Information |::
Kankuro
Type: Canon
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Status: Single
Interest: None at the moment
Appearance:
Kankuro is probably one of the most uniquely dressed characters that you'll ever come across. The boy typically has on a black outfit (long sleeved shirt and pants) that sometimes bares the symbol of the Sand Village on the front of his shirt. The first humorous part of his appearance and most noticeable is the black cap that gives him the "cat ear" appearance, and this is probably a throwback to the outfit that was used in Bunraku or Japanese Puppet Theatre in the past.
The second feature that tends to set him apart from many other individuals happens to be the facepaint that he uses to put the distinctive markings on his face, again this is another point in the Kubuki Puppet Theatre as actors typically put paint and markings on their faces to represent different qualities, with Kankuro wearing purple to mark out nobility.
Kankuro stands at a height of close to 175 cm and weighs in at around 135 pounds and if his hat his ever removed, it would reveal messy brown hair. (Shown as Sakura helped heal him from Sasori.) He often carries around his puppets in a scroll which is often visible at his side to quickly call on them when needing as opposed to carrying his two puppets on his back like in the first part.
Personality:
Kankuro's personality reflects the uniqueness in the style in which he's dressed as the boy's thoughts and actions are very complex. Firstly, being the middle child to the Fourth Kazekage and having to monitor Gaara a good bit, Kankuro actually possesses a deep fear of his younger brother, bearing witness to the boy's power and therefore is often very submissive to Gaara's orders. Over time however and since the attacks on Gaara, the two have become much closer and Kankuro has become much more protective of Gaara, taking on the bigger brother role, sticking up for him and challenging anyone that dares mock him in his presence.
On the other hand, Kankuro seems to carry a dislike for younger kids because of the bad effects that Gaara had on him, often considering the younger ones to be "Spoiled Rotten Little Brats."
Kankuro may seem like he is all talk, but it would be foolish to underestimate him, as he has proven himself to be quite intelligent in his battles. He is focused much on the offensive side of battling, mostly because if his puppets were ever destroyed, he would most likely lose, knowing only minimal Taijutsu skills.
For the most part, Kankuro can be quite the loud mouth and can lure someone into battle with his harsh words, but can often back it up, letting his puppeteer fighting skills talk for themselves. Kankuro does have a lighter side however and can make people laugh from time to time and has a heart, shown when he bailed Kiba out of the situation with Sakon and Ukon where the Inuzuka boy was wounded critically, helping the Leaf Village out during that stressful time. Kankuro also can sometimes be a bumbling idiot and not care about things that Temari or others may say to him. He cares deeply for his two siblings and would quickly lay his life on the line if he needed to fight for them.
History:
Kankuro was born on May 15th to the Fourth Kazekage and was the middle child in the family, being born after his older sister Temari and younger brother Gaara. With his father being so busy, it gave the man limited time with the kids and as the passing of their mother occurred with her having Gaara, Kankuro was very young and had no idea what happened, leaving the three to their Uncle to be cared for.
At age seven, Kankuro entered the academy and unlike his sister, he didn't care so much for the attention of their father as he entered school, actually not really caring or trying hard in the academy, as he didn't exactly see a point to working hard to impress no one. It took Kankuro a much longer period of time to find his calling for his techniques and for that, he paid the price and had bad grades his first year in the academy.
After a long string of scolding and threatening, Kankuro knew that he had to pull his act together and find his attacking style. Before returning to the academy for his next semester at age 8, Kankuro saw something that forever changed his life. The boy was bored one day and watched a performing Kubuki puppet actor on the streets and immediately became enthralled with the person. Kankuro quickly ran home and ecstatically shared the news with Temari and quickly got in touch with a teacher of puppeteering to start looking into the art.
A few weeks later, his teacher brought him his first puppet, Karasu, or Crow, as he began to get the basics down to the art and immediately went back to the academy with new vigor, getting much higher marks in school, being able to hold his own against others now at this point with Crow at his side.
A bleak point in Kankuro's life (besides his mother, which he was too young to remember) happened one day after classes, as he was simply messing around with his puppet, when suddenly he bore witness to the creature inside of Gaara, and this really skewed his feelings toward his younger brother, causing a deep sense of fear and helplessness to him, as he feared what could be done to him if he pissed off Gaara.
At age 13, Kankuro managed to pass the academy and without caring about any family appreciation for it as the focus was on Gaara and how much of the village disapproved of the boy and wanted him dead. An accident occurred with Gaara and his uncle that caused the trio to move on without them and deeply hurt Kankuro, making him fear his younger brother more.
Kankuro turned 14 and this marked the age that he became a Genin alongside his sister Temari and young brother Gaara and conveniently, the three were placed on the same team, which was quickly dubbed the Sand Siblings, under instruction of the Jounin Baki. Immediately after the team was formed, they were told that they were to compete in the Chunin exams in Konoha.
Upon arrival in Konoha for the Chunin Exams, Kankuro and his siblings ran into Team 7. Although Kankuro was tempted to pick on its members, he was threatened by Gaara to stop after picking on Konohamaru and was backed off by Uchiha Sasuke after having a rock whipped at him. The confrontation was finally ended as the three left after Gaara and Sasuke stared one another down.
During the written portion of the exam, meant to test the examinees' cheating abilities, Kankuro disguised his puppet Karasu as a proctor. After using Karasu to gather answers from other tests, Kankuro asked to go to the bathroom. Karasu escorted him and gave him the answers, which worked well enough to allow him to advance to the next portion of the test.
The next day was the second part of the exam, only after about ten minutes into the exam the Sand Siblings ran into some rain genin that wanted their scroll. Kankuro tried to talk them out of the danger of making Gaara mad, but as the Rain Genin decided to be stubborn, Gaara killed all three of genin. Kankuro and Temari calmed down Gaara and within a half an hour later they reached the middle of the tower without a single cut and in record time.
During the preliminary matches, Kankuro was paired with Misumi Tsurugi. Misumi quickly wrapped himself around Kankuro's body, threatening to break Kankuro's neck if he did not forfeit. Kankuro refused, so Misumi made good on his threat by appearing to kill Kankuro. Before the match could be called in Misumi's favor, the Kankuro that Misumi attacked was revealed to have been Karasu in disguise. Karasu quickly grabbed hold of Misumi and constricted him before he could surrender. Misumi survived, but was in no condition to fight, and Kankuro was declared the winner.
In the final round matches set to take place a month later, Kankuro was scheduled to fight Shino Aburame. Because he was to take part in Sunagakure's invasion of Konoha, planned to begin before his match with Shino, Kankuro outfitted Karasu especially for the invasion. When the invasion was delayed and Kankuro's fight with Shino was to begin, Kankuro forfeited, not wanting to reveal Karasu's techniques, giving up any secrets he might have about the puppet.
When the invasion began, Kankuro and Temari escorted an injured Gaara out of the village. When they discovered they were being followed, Kankuro stayed behind to buy time. Before he could engage their pursuer, Sasuke Uchiha, Shino arrived to fight him instead, wanting to have the battle he was denied in the finals. Sasuke continued following Gaara, while Shino and Kankuro began to fight. Kankuro had Karasu begin an immediate assault, but Shino avoided the attacks and, unbeknownst to Kankuro, planted a bug on him. Kankuro then launched a poison smoke bomb at Shino. Shino inhaled some of the gas, but was able to escape and use his bugs to trap and restrain Karasu. Before he lost complete use of Karasu, he tried to launch a final attack, only to discover that Shino's bugs, guided by the bug placed on him earlier, had found his location and consumed all his chakra.
Kankuro is left unable to move after this, but Shino, because of the poison gas he inhaled, passed out and couldn't finish him off. He was later found by Temari, and together they helped Gaara get back to Sunagakure. Gaara, having been defeated by Naruto, wearily apologized to both of his siblings. Kankuro, utterly shocked, muttered out words of apology after the failed events.
Kankuro and his siblings were sent by Sunagakure to help Konoha retrieve Sasuke Uchiha. Kankuro came to the aid of Kiba Inuzuka and his dog Akamaru, saving them from Sakon and Ukon. While Karasu protected Kiba and Akamaru from Ukon, Sakon tried to use his Soma no Ko to fuse with Kankuro's body. It was revealed to be Kankuro's new puppet, Kuroari, which he built to give support to Crow, in disguise, and immediately attacked Sakon. Kankuro had Karasu navigate Sakon and Ukon into Kuroari's body, trapping them. Karasu then split apart to reveal an assortment of weapons that bombarded and pierced Kuroari, killing Sakon and Ukon.
Over the next couple years, Kankuro would continue to master his Puppeteering skills and work his way up through the ranks in the Sand Village, eventually becoming a Jounin alongside with Temari and the two were immediately put on mission to scout out and get information about the Akatsuki where both Temari and he were injured. Due to this, Kankuro quickly built a third puppet, which resembled a lizard, and has a high defense power, being able to protect up to three people inside its hollow body, which he uses in tandem with the two other puppets as he becomes more aware of the need for defense in his style of fighting.
Chakra Element: Unknown
Rank: Jounin
Affiliation: Sunagakure
Weapons:
-Puppets (Explanation below)
- Note: Each of these puppets is characterized for the excessive clicking noises they make when moving, making them less than suitable for stealth purposes.
-Karasu {Literally meaning "Crow") - The first of Kankuro's puppets to make an appearance, Karasu resembles a three-eyed, four-armed humanoid with jagged teeth and spiky black hairstyle protruding from the top of its head and framing the sides. In Part I, Kankuro typically keeps Karasu wrapped in bandages on his back, and he is able to switch places with it at will using the Body Replacement Technique. Because of Kankuro's enjoyment in installing mechanisms into his puppets, Karasu is very offensive, having numerous concealed weapons, including poison-tipped darts and smokescreens in order to blind its opponents. The smokescreens can be made up of poisonous gas to serve a secondary purpose. Karasu is also able to detach any of its body parts for separate attacks.
-Kuroari (Literally meaning "Black Ant") - The second of Kankuro's puppets to make an appearance, Kuroari has a much longer head than Karasu with a bucket-shaped face sporting two red horns and six arms; its facial features include three eyes similar to Karasu, a dark disheveled hairstyle. Its overall body-frame somewhat resembles a large barrel. While Kuroari does not contain as many hidden weapons as Karasu, each of its arm segments contain a hidden saw-blade which can be used to inflict large slicing wounds to opponents. Kuroari's primary function is to trap opponents within itself while weapons enter the slots along its body to puncture the opponent. Like Karasu, Kuroari is able to detach any of its body parts for separate attacks.
-Sanshouo (Literally meaning "Salamander") - The third of Kankuro's puppets to make an appearance, Sansh¨uo, unlike Kankuro's other puppets, stays true to its name and resembles a salamander. Sansh¨uo is shown to have incredible defensive power. It has a frill that swings up to defend against attacks from the front as well as the tail being able to tuck up to reach the frill and guard the rear followed by an iron cloak immediately covering all sides, and has a hollow body that Kankuro and up to two other people can take cover in to defend against attacks coming from other directions.
Known Jutsu:
Kugutsu no Jutsu- Puppetry Technique- Kugutsu no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique that allows a ninja to use a puppet to attack from afar. Using their body's chakra, the ninja emits strings of chakra that run from their fingers to the puppet. The puppet itself can be loaded with many weapons and tools, allowing the puppet master to remain hidden while the puppet moves and attacks the target. Apart from being used to control marionettes, the chakra strings can be attached to other objects, allowing the user to control, or at the very least disrupt, other things. In one instance, Kankuro uses chakra strings to trip Naruto Uzumaki when they first meet. This technique has few weaknesses: since the puppeteer uses his or her hands to manipulate the puppets, if the hands are disabled, then the technique could be neutralized. Also, while controlling the doll, the user is wide open if the opponent bypasses the puppet. For this reason, puppeteers avoid battle, relying almost exclusively on their puppets instead.
Doku Kiri Jigoku - Baribari Hyaku Renpatsu - Poison Mist Hell - Hundred Continous Tears- Doku Kiri Jigoku • Baribari Hyaku Renpatsu is a long range offensive Ninjutsu technique. Kankuro will use this technique while doing his Kugutsu no Jutsu. This technique involves Kankuro using both Karasu and Kuroari. Kankuro will maneuver the two puppets around his target. He will then use Karasu to launch poison mist bombs at his target, enveloping them in the gas. Karasu and Kuroari will then launch a multitude of needles at the target while their vision is blocked.
Kairai Engeki • Kuro Higi Kiki Ippatsu - Puppet Theater - Black Secret Technique Dual Mechanism One Shot- Kairai Engeki • Kuro Higi Kiki Ippatsu is a Short Range Ninjutsu technique. Kankuro will use this technique while doing his Kugutsu no Jutsu. This technique involves Kankurou's second puppet Kuroari acting in conjunction with Karasu. Kuroari acts as a defensive puppet, capturing Kankuro's opponents. Kankuro will use Karasu to manuever his target unknowingly into Kuroari's opened chest. Once inside it will immediately close to prevent their escape. Acting quickly, Kankuro will break apart the limbs of Karasu, with each limb popping out a deadly poisoned knife point. These limbs will then jab into the slots of Kuroari, puncturing and most likely killing the opponent trapped inside.
Kuro Higi Kiki Ni Hatsu - Black Secret Technique Crisis of Two Début - Using his Kuroari puppet, Kankuro will distract his opponent in some way, either by another ninja or possibly using Karasu. With the opponent distracted, Kuroari will move into position behind them. Kankuro will open the chest cavity and emit wire to ensnare his target. They will then be pulled into the chest cavity. Blades will then run through the chest cavity carving the unfortunate soul inside to pieces.

It was a hot and sunny day in Suna, nothing new in that department, meaning one thing. Another boring lazy day for Kankuro, laying about at the Kazekage's office, watching over and listening to Gaara scribble on paper and do all sorts of boring things in silence. "I don't know how the kid can do it, this is killing me!!" Kankuro thought to himself. He simply sat up and called Karasu from his scroll and lightly began to navigate Crow around the room, doing everything from simply walking around to causing havoc by way of tossing things that were harmless out the window boredly.
"Damnit, I hate how boring this place is..." Kankuro growled, having a grin cross his face as he had a funny idea for something to do.
"Click....click...click..." Crow's steps went as it moved along.
Kankuro held back a laugh, ready to bust out laughing as he was about to bother Gaara.
"Click...click...click..." The puppet's steps went as Kankuro guided it. "Knock...knock..."
Gaara's office door opened to reveal Karasu at the door, and Gaara simply glared at the puppet. "Hey boring ass, lets go do something before we die of boredom..." Kankuro made Crow say, throwing his voice as the object's mouth moved.
The sullen and angry Gaara wasn't about to hear any of this and slammed the door shut, leaving Crow and Kankuro to go back to sitting boredly in the room outside. "Damn, I thought he would do something this time..." Kankuro muttered, sighing and recalling Karasu to the scroll in which he carried the puppets, leaving him to simply lay back and nap, hoping something exciting came up.
