Physical description
Choji is quite chubby, weighing about 14st, and has a height of around 5ft, though this is perhaps an advantage as being well built compliments the Akimichi Clan Jutsu' well. In terms of muscle he has improved his strength quite a bit but relies on his Jutsu when it comes down to fighting. His skin is neither pale nor dark but an average tone and he has a few scars from the Sasuke Retrieval attempt. He has a swirl on each of his cheeks and long, light brown, spiky hair whilst his eyes are dark brown.

Clothing description
Choji wears a pair of dark grey trousers a a long red shirt which is designed to look a lot like a jacket. Armour plates line the front, sides and arms on the shirt and he also wears armor plates on his hands, adding to the impact of any punches. The symbol for 'eat' is painted on the front plates in red. Bandages on his feet go up to his knee and he wears standard black Ninja sandals. His head band, displaying the Leaf symbol, is worn on his forehead, tied on with a red piece of cloth. He has a weapons pouch on his waist like most Leaf Shinobi.

Personality:

Choji is probably one of the most food orientated people that you will ever meet, if you asked him about his hobbies then he would probably say "eating". When he is angry his rate of food consumption goes up and he also gets easily offended when others call him "fat". He instead refers to himself as "chubby" or "big boned". His love of food can be rather extreme at times, for instance, he always claims that the last chip in a bag or the last bit, getting angry and upset if someone else eats said chip or bit of pork.

Another aspect of the Chuunin's personality is his soft side, he is very kind and caring, he hates to see his friends and innocent people in pain. He is also very loyal to his long-time friend, Shikamaru Nara. The two have been friends since they were children and Choji has the utmost faith in his friend in times of hardship. His faith in his friend goes so far that he would be willing to give his life for the Nara.

Despite his reluctance to train at times in the past, Choji has long since gotten over this and can now be found training quite a bit, though it normally has something to do with food, he has grown to like training and developing his skill. Seeing the importance of getting stronger and loving the satisfaction of doing well. Not as much as some of the other Ninja in the village admittedly but he still tries his best with everything.

History:

Akimichi Chouji is a member of Team 10, alongside his best friend Nara Shikamaru, Yamanaka Ino and watched over by Jounin sensei Sarutobi Asuma. Noted for his chubby features and unusual style of headgear and hair, Chouji is a member of the Akimichi clan, who have the ability to use a special internal process that allows them to directly convert their calories into chakra, ensuring a high-energy diet. Additionally, Chouji can often be seen munching on several bags of potato chips when doing nothing else.

Chouji’s first major appearance in the series was when Ino quite literally dragged him out to defend Sakura against the Sound Trio. Chouji was reluctant at first, owing to his own team’s weakness. However, a member of the Sound Trio ignited his rage when he called Chouji fat, a word that Chouji loathes and has forced people to strike from their vocabulary in his presence and come up with several euphemisms. Motivated, Chouji cried "HOORAY FOR CHUBBY", his preferred euphemism and expanded his body into a spherical shape, pulling his arms, legs and head inside his clothing and puffing out pure chakra like steam from a stovepipe from those openings. Rolling forwards, he became a devastating force that even managed to overpower Zaku’s pressure vents. Although the team didn’t successfully defeat the Sound Trio, they managed to delay them until backup arrived. Chouji would be drawn last in the preliminaries VS another member of the Sound Trio, having watched the previous fights with a nervous look. Despite his pre-fight pep talk and the promise of a Barbecue from Asuma, Chouji was no match for Dosu’s Melody Speaker implant, which channeled ear-splitting sounds directly through Chouji.

The fight did little damage to him permanently, with him resuming his usual activities and snacking heavily during his time spectating the finals of the Chuunin Exam. However, he succumbed to Kabuto’s massive sleep spell and with no Genjutsu training, slept through the joint Sand/Sound invasion.

Shortly after the invasion, Chouji would help retrieve the defecting Sasuke Uchiha. As the powerhouse of the team, Chouji was able to break through a tough chakra-reinforced rock prison set up by the Four Sounds’ Jiroubou, an equally round but far stronger fighter that was able to overpower the entire team. Chouji decided to take Jiroubou on head to head to allow the rest of the team to go on. Jiroubou was extremely skilled in earth-based Ninjutsu as well as hand to hand combat, using a brutal style of elbows, shoulder tackles and head butts. However, Chouji had come prepared with a case of 3 special pills, each one increasing his abilities as they were consumed. Chouji began to turn the tables when he wound a thread around himself, lining it with kunai and launched himself, becoming a spiky moving sphere that even pierced a stone wall Jiroubou set up. The kunai lodged into him, drawing blood, forcing him to activate his cursed seal.

Chouji then moved onto another set of moves in his arsenal, enlarging his limbs to immense sizes and swatting Jiroubou. As a c’oup de grace, Chouji expanded himself to a literal mountain-sized version of himself and crushed Jiroubou beneath his stomach. Infuriated, Jiroubou fully activated his seal to the second level, showing terrifying strength as he lifted up the gigantic Chouji with an unbelievable palm thrust, knocking him to normal size. Now fully empowered, Jiroubou’s strength was increased tenfold. Chouji knew that the last pill was reserved for suicidal situations, giving him immense power but by draining all his energy for it.

Jiroubou began to drain chakra directly from Chouji, complaining about what little he could absorb due to the amount expended in the previous moves. Still not satisfied, he then took the last of Chouji’s potato chips and began to insult him, pinning him down with a single foot. Calling his friends trash and him even bigger trash, he prepared to deliver the killing blow to the helpless "Fatass". Chouji’s mind wandered back to the days when he was rejected by others, but Shikamaru was quite willing to do little more than hang out, watch the clouds and eat with him. Apologizing, Chouji took the last pill, knowing he wouldn’t be able to join the others.

As Jiroubou hit the ground, Chouji stood up. Huge streams of chakra emerging from him in the intricate shape of butterfly wings. Chouji himself had now changed in size as the pill instantly converted all the fat in his body into chakra, leaving him slimmer. Now even stronger than Jiroubou, he proceeded to punish him for what he did, transferring all the newly-made chakra into his hand. Giving a first strike for stealing the last potato chip, Jiroubou was knocked onto his back. Pinning him down in a reversal of the previous situation, Chouji then told him that calling him fat was a big mistake… but calling his friends trash was unforgivable. Delivering a final punch to the body, Jiroubou lay flat, eyes and mouth wide open as the cursed seal receded. Jiroubou had made a fatal mistake and paid.

However, the stress of the match and the expenditure of physical energy had caused exhaustion in Chouji, forcing him to collapse. As he lost his balance and his feet gave out, he slumped against a tree and saw one final sign - an arrow indicating the direction his friends went and their faith that he would win the fight. It was the last thing he saw before collapsing silently. Luckily, Chouji was saved from death by a combination of Tsunade’s genius medical knowledge and the Nara clan’s refinement of the pills, for he would surely have died without help. The mission did little to change his appetite, however, with his old "big boned" figure returning soon after as he began to bulk up again, both to everyone’s relief and dismay. This would mark Chouji’s last appearance in part 1 of the manga.

Highly skilled clan members can alter the size of their body to a large scale with little trouble. When the clan member changes the size of their body, it uses up body calories. Because of that the clan members will usually be seen eating high calorie diets.

~ Partial Multi-Size Technique [Bubun Baika no Jutsu] :: Bubun Baika no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique used by the Akimichi clan. Using this technique the clan member can alter the size of their body. Highly skilled clan members can alter the size of their body to a large scale with little trouble. Those with lesser skills can use the Houren (Spinach) pills. Taking the second pill allows them to accomplish the partial multi-size skill if they could not normally attain it. With this skill the clan member will enlarge one of their limbs. This allows them to stretch and cause a more powerful impact against their targets.

~ Super Multi-Size Technique [Chou Baika no Jutsu] :: Chou Baika no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique used by the Akimichi clan. Using this technique the clan member can alter the size of their body. Highly skilled clan members can alter the size of their body to a large scale with little trouble. Those with lesser skills can use the Houren (Spinach) pills. Taking the second pill allows them to accomplish the super multi-size skill if they could not normally attain it. With this skill the clan member grows to enmormous size, allowing them to crush and stomp any opponent before them.

~ Butterfly-Bomb Bombardment [Choudan Bakugeki] :: Choudan Bakugeki is a taijutsu technique which utilizes the red Akimichi hyourougan pill. This pill should only be used as a last resort by the ninja. Once ingested, the ninja will immediately burn off all the calories within their body turning it into chakra. For the Akimichi clan and their large girth, it can burn enough calories to give them 100 times their normal strength. When the clan member focuses all their chakra to one hand, it will carry an explosive amount of impact when it connects on their opponent.

~ Super Open Hand Slap [Chou Harite] :: Chou Harite is a taijutsu technique which is used in conjunction with the Akimichi clan's Baika no Jutsu. After increasing their body size, the clan member will focus a special chakra to their palms. They will then slam their palms directly into their opponent below, smashing them into the ground.

~ Spiked Human Bullet Tank [Nikudan Hari Sensha] :: Nikudan Hari Sensha is a Taijutsu technique used by the Akimichi clan. A modification of the normal Nikudan Sensha, the clan member will use sharp edges to deal greater damage to their target. This has been seen in two ways. One way is to surround their body with a loose chain of kunai or edged weapons. When their body is enlarged, the chain becomes taught which allows them to increasing the rotation speed and destruction when they roll. The other style takes advantage of clan member's long hair. By using their chakra to harden their hair, they become a rotating ball of spikes, which will slice into anyone or anything which gets close.

~ Human Bullet Tank [Nikudan Sensha] :: Nikudan Sensha is a Taijutsu technique used by the Akimichi clan. After using the Baika no Jutsu technique to modify their body into a large sphere shape, the clan member draws their limbs into the main spherical body. Next they launch their body into the air and begin to spin at a high rate of speed. Launching himself at the target, the fast spinning prevents most incoming projectile attacks from landing, instead they bounce off with little effect. Any direct attack the opponent uses with their body would result in the crushing of their attackers bones.

Shino cursed inwardly as he explored further, he could sense the presence of his over-confident team-mate, Inuzuka Kiba. The brunette was constantly ticking the bug-wielder off, be it scaring away insects or squashing an ant, it would appear that his goal in life was to annoy the Aburame boy. It seemed that today was no exception for the dog-breathed boy had been following his team-mate for most of the morning.

Shaking his head, he focused on the task at hand rather than his pain in the butt rival. Though in Shino's opinion it was a one-sided rivalry, it clearly wasn't to those who had to put up with the pair on a daily basis. Glancing at his list, he smiled. The next insect on his list wasn't even rare but he had always had a hard time catching it, the common cricket had always escaped his grasp, today he hoped it would be different.

He started a paced walked towards the grassed clearing nearby, knowing full well that the hopping creatures could always be found there and this time of year. As soon as he stepped into the strangely long grass a smirk was hidden by his coat, one little cricket looked particularly sleepy and despite his respect for insects, Shino grasped his chances and snatched up the dozy little guy.

Triumphant at last, he stowed the bug in a jar and started walking back into the forest, jar in hand. It just so happened that Kiba had decided to fall asleep too, on his dog back too, a dumb idea, and just to top it off, he was in a tree! Just as Shino walked past said tree, the branch collapsed, the insect lover dropped his jar and the cricket hopped off.

Looking down at the infuriating boy he glared through his glasses "Kiba, may I ask as to why you have been following me all morning? You and your dumb mutt could've killed that cricket you know?" He stated in a slightly ticked off voice. He smirked as he rolled around in pain and Akamaru stood up "Would I care to help you up? What do you think?" He answered calmly, some amusement in his voice.
